Concurrent Training Contracts

Issued: 5 March 2003

There are no restrictions in the Apprenticeship and Traineeship Act 2001 (A&T Act) which would prevent the establishment of two or more concurrent apprenticeships or traineeships even with the same employer (whether as New Entrant Traineeships or Existing Worker Traineeships). However, eligibility for Commonwealth or NSW government funding assistance in such instance, is restricted to the first indenture of training commenced.

The A&T Act does not preclude subsequent indentures of training either with the existing employer or another employer. However, approval will not be given where the applicant proposes to undertake qualifications identical to a qualification previously completed by the applicant. Similarly, such person may not undertake a lower-level qualification where the majority of the same skills are required.

An apprentice or trainee may be approved to enter a subsequent indenture of training in an apprenticeship or traineeship with a different employer in a different apprenticeship or traineeship.

Further information on the NSW Approval Requirements can be obtained from your local DET ITSC or from your nominated Australian Apprenticeships Centre (AAC).

Phone To contact your local DET ITSC, telephone 13 28 11 from anywhere in NSW for the cost of a local call.
