The apprenticeship vocation of Electrotechnology - Instrumentation and Control has been established.

Qualifications, structure and packaging

UEE07 Electrotechnology Training Package includes 80 qualifications ranging from Certificate I to Advanced Diploma. One qualification supports the apprenticeship pathway. Click on UEE40907 Certificate IV in Industrial Electronics and Control for details.

Industrial arrangements

Applications to establish apprenticeships will not be approved unless the Commissioner for Vocational Training is satisfied that appropriate industrial arrangements are in place.

Some industrial arrangements under which apprentices can be employed are listed here.

Licensing

There are a number of licensing requirements for the electrical and electronic industries in New South Wales. These requirements are administered by the NSW Office of Fair Trading.

Learning resources and assessment materials

There are resources available from EE-Oz Training Standards and Australian Training Products.

Registered training organisations

For registered training providers which can deliver the apprenticeship qualification go to National Training Information Service.

For organisations which are in contract with the NSW Department of Education and Training to be paid for the delivery of the apprenticeship training go to Training Market.

Transition arrangements

Transition arrangements allow the delivery of old and new trade qualifications, for three months after the date of effect of the new Vocational Training Order. See here.

Job descriptions

Jobs in instrumentation and control select, install, commission, fault find and maintain equipment and systems for the control of plant, machines and processes.

There are two streams for this qualification - Electrical and Instrumentation. Job functions will depend on which stream is selected.

Electrical

  • Develop and connect control circuits
  • Select and arrange equipment for general electrical installations
  • Install low voltage electrical apparatus and associated equipment
  • Install wiring and accessories for low voltage circuits
  • Lay wiring/cabling and terminate accessories for extra-low voltage circuits

Instrumentation

  • Document occupational hazards and risks in instrumentation
  • Install and set up transducers and sensing devices
  • Install process instrumentation and control cabling and tubing
  • Install process control apparatus and associated equipment
  • Verify compliance and functionality of process control installations
  • Select equipment for process control systems

Course of study

UEE40907 Certificate IV in Industrial Electronics and Control

Terms of training

Full time:

  • UEE40907 Certificate IV in Industrial Electronics and Control by direct entry
    • 48 months or until the relevant competencies are achieved

  • UEE40907 Certificate IV in Industrial Electronics and Control where the apprentice already holds UEE31207 Certificate III in Instrumentation and Control or UEE30807 Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician or equivalent
    • 12 months or until the relevant competencies are achieved

Probationary periods

Where the nominal term is:

  • 12 months the probationary period is 1 month
  • 24 - 48 months the probationary period is 3 months
