Competency Record Books

A record of Achievement!
A competency record book gives apprentices and trainees written proof of the skills and competencies they develop during the course of their apprenticeship or traineeship.

Competency record books are sometimes called work evidence or work record books. Some training organisations have now moved to electronic profiling for students, which may replace printed books as evidence of training.

Record books and electronic profiling are currently being reviewed by the Australian National Training Authority.

Copies of available record books are provided free of charge to NSW apprentices and trainees who are registered with the state training authority, the NSW Department of Education and Training. Books are usually distributed via the learner's training organisation.

Other books are currently in development. For more information about books for courses which are not covered by the current listings, or for enquiries regarding the status of the available competency record books, please call Skills Development Unit, 02 9266 8677 or contact your Industry Training Advisory Board.

Guidelines for Training Record Developers
This publication, prepared by TAFE NSW Strategic Services for the Australian National Training Authority, aims to help registered training organisations prepare training/competency records. It provides general advice, worked examples and templates that may be used to design training records. Download the guidelines.
